IF I WERE A MAN.
(By One Who Isn’t.) I would be a real one, and not a spoilt mother’s darling, even if I knew there were lots of girls ready to fall into my arms. I would recognise that this was only because there was a great shortage of my sex, and not because I was wonderful, or handsome, or romantic. I would flirt, so long as the girl knew it was only flirting, but I would never, never lead her to believe that I meant marriage if I didn’t'. Whenever I saw a plain girl I would be kind and courteous to her, just for the joy of seeing her brighten up and look pleased. That, in fact, would be my daily turn. I would always give up my seat to ladies in:-’buses and trams —indeed, I would be > the World’s Most Courteous Young Man. If I were in love—l would take great pains to show it', and not try to conceal it as if it were something to be ashamed of, ae so many weak-hearted young men do. I would remember that “faint heart never won fair lady,” and would take courage and put on the “cave-man” stuff, though inwardly trembling. Also I would not stop being a lover when I became a husband. And if I did all these things, I should bo packed up in a glass case and sent to a museuni!
