Holiday racing and trotting continued in full swing in both islands on Saturday, though the light harness sport created mos intC The second day of the Auckland Trotting Club’s carnival saw some brilliant trotting.. The Champion Handicap was productive of a dead-heat between Kohara and Padlock, with Peter Bingen in third place. Young Blake was successful in the Epsom Handicap and Great Peter and Wraeklcr were other important winners at the gathering. The Winton fixture saw Erin’s fortune, who was successful on Boxing Day, score in the Winton Club Handicap. Saturday witnessed the close of the Dunedin and Manawatu gallops but generally the public were well astray m their fancies. At Awapuni Atholspear took the Liverpool Handicap from Otairi, and the Taranaki hack, Fernden, scored in the Kawau Ilmidicap, thus winning at the first time of asking in open company. Kin lin Tin wdn the St. Andrew’s Handicap at Wingatui in a punishing finish from Circulation and Taboo, and the Wellington sprinter, Quantum, took the Grandstand Handicap from El Boa and Waving C ° Smithereens was successful in the W. R. Kettle Cup at the Greymouth meeting, which opened on Saturday. Nasston who ws sold at the end of last season from New Plymouth, won the spunt race and Booster took the seven-furlong event. To-day will see the Auckland Racing Club galloping carnival continue at Ellerslie, when the King’s Plate, Summer Cup and the Electric Handicap will be among the events decided.
