ORGANISED RADIO CHAIN
VOLUNTARY WORKERS’ IDEA; PLAN TO MEET EMERGENCIES. By Telegraph.—Tress Association. ’ Auckland, Dec. 28. An organise radio chain, to be established early in the new year, was approved by the first annual convention of the Association of Radio Transmitters. Mr. H. P. V. Brown (Christchurch), chairman, said the great need for the chain had been demonstrated during the recent earthquakes in the South Island, when a definite relay-system could have given valuable assistance to the devastated areas. The chain could be made available for the Post and Telegraph Department during any interruption of communications through storm or other causes. The strength of the association Was 250 members, and the number was rapidly increasing. It was agreed that Sunday evening should be the principal night, the telegraph offices being then closed. The finalising of the scheme was left to a special committee. •’ • A ballot resulted in the election of Mr. T. B. Clarkson (Auckland) as Dominion president, and Mr. Edwards (Auckland) as vice-president. The con-., ference headquarters next year will be in Wellington.
