FATAL CROSSING SMASH

AUG!DENI’ NEAR INVERCARGILL. Invercargill, Dec. 26. Alexander Robert Nicol, chiropractor, of Invercargill, accompanied by his wife, was driving a ear along the West Plains Road towards Invercargill when, at the railway crossing at West Plains, lie camo into collision with the Kingston train. The car was thrown on to a cattle stop, a distance of 3d feet. -Mr. .Nicol, who received very serious injuries about the head, was unconscious when picked up by the train driver, who brought both Nicol and Ins wife to town. Mr. Nicol, however, succumbed about 10.30 p.m. without regaining consciousness, Airs. Nicol, who was slightly injured and suffered from shock was able to proceed to her home.
