Th© Portguese artillery mutinied in the Monte Forte at Macao, a Portuguese colony at the mouth of the Canton River, on Sunday evening. At a preconcerted signal the four fortresses were to have mutinied and, seized the'town, but only one fort acted. A hundred and twenty men, led by a disaffected sergeant, ejected the officers and held two sergeants as hostages. On Monday morning the Macao Government sent an ultimatum to the mutineers giving them 24 hours in which to surrender. This morning the Government forces fired on the fort employing artillery and machine-guns. Half an hour later all had surrendered. The damage and casualties are unknown.
