EVERYBODY’S- TALKIES. . ' -• , , , . LA'ST TWO SCREENING’S. /. “On Trial,” the Warner Bros, alltalking Vitaphone special 'will again be presented at Everybody’s Theatre, New Plymouth, to-night and finally to-mor-row night. Starring Pauline Frederick, Lois Wilson and Bert’Lytell, “On Trial” is a talkie triumph and should not be missed by any picture fan. There is an excellent supporting programme, of talkie featurettes. ' INTERFERENCE. All the star players in the Paramount all-talking picture, “Interference,” • tal/k. This talking picture will be the main attraction at Everybody’s Theatre commencing next Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. The principal players are Clive Brook, William Powell, Evelyn Brent and Doris Kenyon, all of whohe voices register very plainly, and accurately'; in the picture. There are no sub-titles in ‘•‘lnterference,” the* continuity and action of the story relying upon the spoken dialogue for its success. ‘All actors in “Interference” have had previous stage experience, and their work in that picture marks the first successful attempt to give' a legitimate stage attraction just as presented on the stage without one iota’of change. Every word spoken in the stage drama of that name will also be heard’ from the screen by the stars in “Interference.” The stage play ■ was first produced in. England, where it played for two years.. It ran. for nine months in New York in -1927. It is a story of a woman scorned and. is daid in London. “Interference” at its r Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch seasons created sensational attendances, so great was its popularity.
THE PEOPLE’S TALKIES. “THE IDLE RICH." In “The Idle Rich," which is taken from the famous stage comedy,- “White Collars," the producer, William de Mille, < has included many novel sound effects and technical advances. Sounds which have never before issued from the screen have been crowded with lavish hand into this one. They include ail the familiar noises of a busy, average home, a tea-kettle boiling, a door-bell ringing, a ca< purring, coffee perking, and an old-fashioned phonograph, wheezing out an old-fashioned tune. Conrad , Nagel, Bessie- Love and Leila Hyams, . all °experienced on the talking screen, are in the leading roles. Miss Love plays the main comedy role and Mr. Nagel and Miss Hyams have the romantic leads. Robert Ober. Edythe Chapman, James Neill. Paul Kruger and Kenneth Gibson are in the supporting cast. “The Idle Rich,” which is supported by “Van. and Sehench” (comedy singers), Keller Sisters and Lynch (singing and. dancing). Jan Garber’s Band, and Cliff Edwardr (-Ukelele Ike"), is now showing at the People’s Talkies, New Plymouth.
