Tho severity of the electrical storm which occurred at South Hillend, Qtago, recently may be judged from the. fact that seven of the power board poles showed signs of the electrical discharge being taken to earth. This was evidenced by small splinters of sap wood tracing the path from the top cross-arms to tho ground level. The pole which received the* main portion of Che shock was slightly shattered, splinters being hurled ft distance of about two chains. Residents who were in the path of the storm state that thunder was continuous for about 2-6 minutes, no time being distinguishable between tho flashes of lightning and the sound.
