GIRLS’ FRIENDLY SOCIETY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Girls’ Friendly Society held a very successful Dutch fair in the parish hall, Inglewood, on Thursday afternoon and evening, when the takings amounted to i 17. In the evening a concert was given, . those rendering items being L. Kohn, R. Darlow and Miss A. Parfitt'(songs), Misses J. Horner, J. Messenger, C. Gudgeon and A. Parfitt (vocal quartette), Miss E. McAllum (dance) and Miss E. Petch (elocutionary). Miss N. Wilson played the accompaniments. A very amusing farce ‘was staged, “Fortune Favours Fools.” The characters were Mr. Gilroy, Miss J. Horner; Mrs. Gilroy, Miss J. Messenger; Huggins the butler, Miss C. Gudgeon. Several competitions were held, the winners being: Nightdress, Mrs. Bublitz; glove box, Mrs. Gow; box of chocolates, Miss Brown. The following were the stallholders: Work stall, Misses Baker, Messenger and Gyde; sweet stall, Misses Frewin, Clough and Burke; produce stall,.Misses Gudgeon and Horner; fish pond, Miss Gyde; afternoon tea, Mesdames Parfitt, Thompson and Miss Brown. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Tho monthly meeting of the executive of the Inglewood Chamber of Commerce was held. on Tuesday evening. ■ Several tradesmen were invited to submit prices i for . the manufacture and erection of signboards on the main highway adjacent to the borough. Mr. A. Codd’s tender for two Bft by 6ft signs was accepted. The matter of the very ba-d state of the Bristol Road from the Junction Road to the Everett Road reserve was brought up and it was decided to write the County Council and the Everett Road Reserve Board, pointing out the desirability of having the road put in good order in view of the approaching tourist, season.. The. secretary was authorised to purchase .29. additional lamps to complete the coloured strings used for Christmas decorations. It was also resolved to make a charge of 10s and breakage renewals for the loan of the coloured lamps to any other body, the lamps to be tested by'"t?he borough council electrical department before and after lending at a fee of 2s Gd..
