ALLEGED HARM BY THRASHING. . By Telegraph.—Press Association.. Wellington, Last Night, A serious- charge was laid against John Campbell Burns, headmaster of .the Petone-West School and a borough councillor, in the Petone Magistrate’s Court to-day, when Vincent Furniss, father of Roy Furniss, aged 11 years, a pupil, claimed £25 compensation for damages due to a thrashing given to his son by Burns, which was alleged by plaintiff to have been unduly severe. It was admitted the-boy was disobedient and deserved punishment. • - Dr. Roger Bakewell in evidence said he had examined the'boy and found the forearm and hands covered with welts and the hips and lower part of the body bruised. -The police similar. The boy also gave evidence. The defence was a complete’denial of causing the injuries, though an .admission "was made of punishing the boy, who was alleged to have resisted the punishment.
