TARANAKI BURSARIES
TENABLE AT MASSEY COLLEGE. ' ‘ With reference to the of Taranaki bursaries for those wishing to study, not necessarily for degrees, at the Massey Agricultural College, ad- ; vice was received some days ago from Mr. S. G. Smith,.M.P., that these bursaries were available, and now Mr. W. Insull, secretary of the Taranaki Education Board, has received letters/;/ from the Hon. H. Atmore, Minister for Education, sent to Mr. Smith, and confirming Mr. Smith’s telegrams.. . The first letter, written on Novem-. ber 6, reads: “With reference to your . personal representations to me . when : you asked whether a Taranaki Scholarship holder could attend. Massey Agricultural College, I can say that on. inquiry I find that with the permission . - of the Chancellor of the New Zealand University Council this can be arranged, if desired.” . The second letter from Mr. Atmore explains a little further the position and outlines the working of the Opaku endowment reserve, the rent and inter- < est on income from which finances the bursaries, under the Public Trustee’s direction. From the wording of the Act, the Minister concludes, the scholarships apply to Massey Agricultural or Lincoln College as well as to others connected with .the University of New. Zealand.
