'< hardship on swimmers and would affect' Mi the entries at carnivals, the Fitzroy Surf Club decided at a recent meeting to oppose the’proposal by a member of the Taranaki Swimming Centre to -es-; tablish a system of standard entry , fees for carnivals. - . . Those present were Mr. P. Wright(chairman), Misses L, Hammond, J. Bennett, Messrs H. J. Thomas/ -A,W. Mis' Moorhead, J. Hutchinson, C. Plumtree • . and K. J. Staunton. . The decision regarding the entry fees . proposal was • made as a result of the receipt of a letter from the ‘ acting--secretary of the Taranaki Swimming centre, which stated that the Hawera Club liad given notice that' its delegatewould move'the following motion at the annual. meeting of the centre“That the centre adopt a standard entry fee of Is per race for seniors and 6d per race for juniors, such fee to accompany the. nominations.” In discussing the matter, members expressed, the opinion that the' proposal * ’was too hard on the swimmers, who provided the entertainment at the carnivals. .. - ■. . ■ ■’ J ?‘- It was decided to hold the first club night on November 21. This. Club night was. to be unofficial and would, be held for the purpose of getting bld inembers together and of recruiting new members. M The club executive was appointed ft 'y committee to control club, nights. The matter of the formation of.ft ladies’ life-saving team was discussed. - It was stated that another club had decided to form a ladies’ life-saving team. ■’’. Mr. C. Plumtree was appointed an additional delegate to the Taranaki Cen--tre of the New Zealand Amateur Swim- ’ ming Association. ' -,
