KAPONGA CYCLE ROAD RACE
R. HOSIE LEADS GARGAN HOME. In the seventh race of the series under the auspices of the Kaponga Cycle Club on Saturday, six riders competed, but the event lacked the usual good finish. It became practically a two-man race, the long ride round the Manaia-Opunake block of 44 miles telling severely on some of the riders. The first rider to leave, J. Hosie, reached the Main South Road before being overtaken by Adlam (3Jmin). The next three were Coleman, R. Hosie and G Williams, who overtook the leaders shortly after leaving. Manaia. Hosie brothers soon went ahead on their own and it was not until after passing the Taungatara factory that the scratch man, °Gargan, caught J. Hosie, who continued on with him to Awatuna, where he dropped behind. Gargan was unable to catch R. Hosie, whom he sighted once, and the latter was able to? win by a good quarter of a mile from Gargan. J. Hosie came in nine minutes later, while a similar time elapsed before Williams and Coleman came in, while Adlam was three minutes later. Following are the details: — R. Hosie (4min), 2hrs 56sec ........ 1 L. S. Gargan (Imin), Ihr 58min 47 2-ssec 2 J. Hosie (lOmin), 2hr lOmin 32sec .. 3 Also started. —G. Williams, D. Coleman. N. Adlam.
