THE WENDY HUT
OUR. GREAT PAINTING COMPETITION. Can you paint ,the picture printed-on this page so that-it looks even more attractive than it does now? Useful prizes are awaiting the children who are most successful in producing a really beautiful painting. NoW children, you have all these particulars firmly fixed in your minds, haven’t you? -And no doubt you have already studied the picture which you have to paint in order tO\compete for one of these useful prizes. Study it again, please—more carefully than you have ever studied a painting competition picture before! Because I shall look out for certain special things when I am going through the entries and deciding which paintings are worthy of the prizes. You will quite understand, therefore, why I want you to get the “atmosphere” of the picture, and to get the right • colours and shades in the right places so that the finished affair is a beautiful thing—and not a big blot of blunders. You’re anxious to get to work, I know, so I will not keep you talking any longer. We’re bound to have a few rules, though, else .someone is sure to get all wrong. Here they are: 1. Your painting must in by October 23, addressed to Wendy, c/o The Editor, Daily News. 2. Your name, address, and age must be clearly stated on your entry. 3. You must do the painting entirely alone, quite unaided by anyone. The signature of a teacher or a grown-up relative is required as guarantee that this very important rule has been observed. And now get’to work. Do your, very best—and the best men (or women!) will surely win! —Wendy.
