AFGHAN MINISTER DEPARTS
AFFAIRS AT LONDON LEGATION. (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, Oct. 9. It is authoritatively stated here that the Afghan Minister in London, Shuja-ud-Dowla Khan, was informed on July 24 that he was no longer persona grata to His Majesty’s Government and was shortly afterwards requested to leave the country. This action was taken on personal grounds. Muhammad Yunus Khan, the sole remaining secretary at the legation, who had previously acted for a considerable period as charge d’affaires during Shuja’s absence, thereupon resumed charge of Afghan interests. It is understood that the question of ownership of the lapis lazuli, mentioned by Shuja as having been seized at the Government’s command, is about to become the subject of proceedings in the courts of this country. In these circumstances no comment on this matter is possible. ‘ Shuja stated in Berlin yesterday that he fled to Paris after armed officials from Scotland Yard had overcome his servants at the legation.
