RAPID ADVANCEMENT SHOWN. By Telegraph—Press Association Auckland, Last Night. At the New Zealand Baptist Union Asembly to-day the Rev. F. A. Pariy (New Plymouth) delivered the union sermon, embodying an appeal for the church to come to grips with sin. The Rev. M. W. P. Lascelles, secretary and treasurer, announced that there were now 7385 members of the Baptist churches in the Dominion. There had been 717 additions to the membership and 460 baptisms recorded during the year. Reference was made to the expansion of work among young people. Admiration and appreciation were expressed of the high Christian stand taken by the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, during his term of office in New Zealand, and best wishes were extended to him and Lady Alice Fergusson as they return to England. Through, the liberality of the widow of the late Samuel Dennis, Canterbury, a fund had been inaugurated to help the opening and equipping of new Sunday schools. The treasurer’s statement showed, a credit balance. in nearly all the funds of the union. The accumulated funds, including investments, now. amount to £33,836. A total of £27,396 passed through the union office for the year, being an increase of approximately £lO,060 on last year. At to-night’s session an address prepared by the incoming president, the Rev. J. W. Kemp, Auckland, who is in hospital, was read, the subject being "Revivals and Evangelism.”
