The month had begun well with an attendance of 281 but had fallen to 249 owing to colds, etc. Now it had recovered. The visiting committee, Messrs. It was stated that there was no way for the water from the various downpipes to get aivay and that it was lying about the place. This was referred to the board. v . It was reported that evidently several night parties had been held in the cocoa shed and it was decided to inquire into the advisability of having the nightwatchman engaged. The. subsidy for the cleaning of the technical portion of the school was to hand. The total takings at the recent fancy dress ball had amounted to £4l 8s 3d, while the costs were £l4 Is Bd, which left a credit balance of £27 6s 7d. This was a little short of last year. Messrs. Application is to be made to the Railway Department for a special train for February 6 for the annual school picnic, which is to be held at Ngamotu beach. At the closing of the meeting the chairman, Mr. James Roberts, tendered his resignation, which was accepted with regret. SWIMMING CLUB. HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL SEASON. At the annual meeting of the Inglewood. Amateur Swimming Club there was a large attendance, including several lady members. The chairman, 'Mr. Wanklyn, was in the chair. The chairman’s report stated: — The club enjoyed a most successful season from all points of view. The year was begun with a credit balance of £l5, and closed with about £9 in hand. Practically the whole of the club’s funds were spent in the baths. They were lighted throughout with electricity at a total cost to the club of £22 10s. A sum of £7 10s has been paid off this account; the remainder, it is hoped, will b met during the next year or so. A further sum of £37 10s was expended for extra seating and £6 10s on a new dressing shed. The committee can be congratulated on its initiative and enterprise, the hearty co-operation of all members being much appreciated. The two carnivals were a huge success, both showing big profits and the public showing a very live interest in the club’s affairs, while the carnivals were well patronised by visiting swimmers. We are proud of the achievements of our senior and junior water polo team?., both grades annexing the Taranaki championships, the Dalgleish Cup being held by the seniors and the Garth Cup by the juniors. The Inglewood team also won at the Stratford tournament.

In club competitions Miss Connie Gudgeon won the McAllister Rose Bowl for ladies. The senior trophy, the Stone Cup, was won by Mr. Gray Sutherland, and the junior, the O’Neill Cup, by R. Winter. R. Winter also won the Taranaki primary schools championship, and the club extends to him its congratulations. Club nights were held during the year, and it is to be hoped that the public generally will take more interest in these evenings, where a number of interesting events take place. Again this year we have lost a “willing horse” in our popular and energetic joint secretary, Mr. J. W. Ogle, who left the district. His untiring efforts on our behalf had a considerable influence in the success of the club, his unfailing courtesy and attention to detail being a great source of satisfaction. We regret also the coming departure from the district of the other joint secretary, Mr. P. Pope, and we venture to say that these two will be missed very sorely. We extend to Mr. Pope heartiest good wishes in his new sphere, and wish him

success. To Mr. Ogle we offer our deepest sympathy in his recent bereavement, also in his own protracted illness, and sincerely trust he will soon be fully recovered in health. In the balance-sheet the main receipts were those of the two carnivals which totalled £64 15s 4d, while the main expenditure was that for seats for the baths, the installation of lighting, which totalled £4B Ils sd, and carnival prizes amounting to £l3 10s.
