ACCEPTANCES FOR TO-MORROW. Dunedin, Last Night. Acceptances for the second day (Saturday). of the Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting, are: — WAN ARI HURDLES.

GOOD FIELDS AT WAVERLEY. DISCUSSION OF RECENT FORM. (By “Moturoa.”) Waverley weights have now given sportsmen something to ponder over, the Labour Day gathering being another “Taranaki holiday” and attracting a number of sports and horses from All over the province. Mr. H. Coyle has had great fields to weight and appears to have got through his task well.

With Seatown and Star Area engaged in the Cup, opinions differ as to which is the better of the pair. Seatown had a rough spin on the other side of the Tasman, but is reported to be picking up again on Hawera’s kinder tracks, though he will need to be properly tuned up to win at Waverley with 9.0. Star Area, who races well when fresh, is going on nicely and should be nearly at his best on October 28. Mendip, with 121 b less, should run prominently. Bisox (8.0) appears to have lost all form,'and The Swell (on the same mark) reads better. The 7.0 division contains several likely ones, including Orazone (7.5), Avro (7.3) and Flying Shot (7.0). At this stage opinion is inclined to lean towards Mendip, Star Area and Orazone.

Ridgemount has probably earned 9.0 in the Brewer Handicap, six furlongs, but Limited (8.10) has only to run honestly to prove hard to catch on a turning track. Bonogne, in at the same weight, is no stranger to Waverley, and usually handles the going well there. The Swell (8.4) is not badly treated, but claims a dual engagement. Partaga does not attract with 8.2, but amongst the “seven-stoners’’ are speedy ones like Gold Dawn (7.13), Llanoro (7.12) and Oration (7.3). Limited, Gold Dawn and Bonogne are all sure to have admirers.

They are not a really good lot in the Handicap Hack Hurdles, and Airtight should carry 10.10 well in that company. Royal Acre and Panorama (10.3) look well amongst the others.

The Wilson Hack Highweight, seven furlongs, should give horses like Singer (9.5), Potency (8.11) and Monoloff (8.10) a chance to' show their speedand staying powers.

Richfield (8.13), Some Acre (8.1) and Calapat (8.9) are nicely placed in the Flying Hack Handicap, six furlongs, and a lightweight that might give some “cheek” is Whenuatonga (7.0).

Thrift seems entitled to all of 9.6 in the Moumahaki Hack Stakes, and may be preferred to Singer (8.'5) and Potency (7.8). * # # #

The Jackson Memorial Stakes, five furlongs, will see good money for Valpre (9.2), Just So (9.4) and Royal Finance (8.7), but previous running on the day usually throws some light on this event.

Roundelay, though not up to three-year-old classic company, is a useful sort and continues to show good form on the tracks at Awapuni. He is still a maiden, but it may not be for long. He is in at Masterton.

Kedda-r is going great guns at Awapuni, and promises to pay his way again this season. He looks ready to race now, and appears to be a horse worth keeping in mind for forthcoming sprint races, though he will never make a stayer, a fact his party have found out to their cost.

The long straight at Masterton should give the slow-beginning Moutoa Treasury a chance. She has pace to burn, but is always handicapped in a big field and on a small course. Her turn is overdue.

Down the line punters are still recovering from the shock of Queen's Choice’s big dividend at Napier Park. The reason of an out of all reason dividend always causes a lot of talk, but backers should thank their lucky stars and “say nuffin’.”

Blimp continues to let his party down with loud bumps, but they are sticking to him and he will race at Masterton and at Waverley later on. One of these days he will take it into his head to gallop, and the rest will join in the procession. But his followers, who are at present taking reefs in their belts and are trying to look pleasant, hope that the turning point is near at hand. EGMONT SUMMER MEETING. DATES BEFORE CHRISTMAS. An important change has been made in tho dates for the Egmont Racing Club’s summer meeting, which -will now be held before Christmas. Wednesday, December 18, and Thursday, December 19, are the appointed days. For over 30 years the club has held its summer meeting in February, generally in the middle of the month, but during recent years the dates have caused the committee a good deal of anxiety owing to tho meeting being held in the same week as those of the Takapuna Jockey Club and the Pahiatua Racing Club and close to the many meetings that follow tho New Year. When the Racing Conference met at tho beginning of the present season the Egmont, Taranaki and Wanganui Jockey Clubs, acting together, endeavoured to obtain dates in February and March a week later than those they had last year. Other clubs, however, w’ere unwilling to alter their own days, and Egmont was faced with the necessity of racing earlier

than it wished or seeking a complete change. Having considered the matter from every point of view, the committee of tho E'graont club decided to apply for December 18 and 19, and these dates have -been sanctioned by the authorities. Tho result is that Hawera will race a week before Christmas, New Plymouth on Boxing Day and the day after, and Stratford on January 1 and 2. This will give a circuit of meetings that should appeal to owners as well as the public, and the Egmont Club has every reason to look forward to a successful meeting. NOTES FROM MELBOURNE COURSE.
