ROUND MOUNTAIN RACE
LEAGUE CLUB'S ARRANGEMENTS. Arrangements for the round the mountain road race, under the control of the New Plymouth League Cycle Club arc well in haiul. The. hunting horse-jump-ing events have been arranged, states the secretary. The New Plymouth Boys’ High School has been approached regarding a mass drill' display. Orchestral music has been arranged. A refreshment stall and athletic events are to be arranged. The New Plymouth League Cycle Club’s championship of ' the road will be decided on October 19. The m*ssenger boys’ championship will be decided on October 12. NEW PLYMOUTH HANDICAPS. Handicaps for the New Plymouth League Cycle Club races - to-day have been declared. The races, starting from Spotswood at 1.45 p.m., are the final B grade races of the season, and, the second messenger race of the series of three races. Handicaps are: B grade, to Oakura and back, 13J miles. —Les Roberts, scr; T. Haw, v. Sole and C. Henry, 25sec; J. Wigg and L. Imin 25sec; E. Nodder, 2min; H. Parker, B. Reilly, N. Way, 2fmin; M. White and H. Kopu, Messenger boys, four miles. —Snowden and scr; Erb, 15sec; T. Horner, D. Boulton, E. Hook and Berryman, 25sec; Tuffery and Whithers, 35 sec; Hargreaves, Imin; Martin, Whitehead, Fox, Imin 46sec; Stevens, T. Boulton, 3min. ENDURANCE TEST TO-DAY. To-day two New Plymorith cyclists, N. H. Bellringer (who gained fastest time in the mountain race last year) and Clem Gilbert, will attempt to ride around the mountain on cycles twice in the day, weather permitting. They will leave the New Plymouth Post Office at 4 a.m., when they will be officially sent away by the secretary of the N.P.L.C.C, They will probably take 6% to 7 hours the, flyst tim6 around,' and will leave the Bank of New Zealand corner on their second attempt approximately at 11 o’clock... This attempt has been decided on, after the idea having been discussed 'by New Plymouth cyclists for. some time past. The distance is approximately .200 miles and the roads are excellent. The finish of tho second round will be at Eliot. Street.. S. McCann is New Plymouth’s only representative in the Timaru to Christ/ church cycle road race, which takes place to-day. McCann will ride from scratchwith H. Watson and L. Hill, and these three should provide a wonderful race for fastest time honours. The limit is COmin. AMATEUR CYCLE RACING. The following handicaps have been declared for the fifth race in the Grand Dance Cup series, to be held to-day at 2 p.m. The race will start and finish at Mission Hill, the course being to Okato and back, a distance of about 28 miL'S: —J. Horne, J. Donaldson, scr; IN Reed, L. Heatley, 25sec; R. Gardiner, R. Roper, smin; A. W. Henderson, Bmin; L. S. Gillies, 9min. With two races to go the points in. this series are: J. Donaldson 15, L. Reed 11, R. Gardiner 8, L. Heatley 7. Aggregate points for the season now are: L. Reed 30, J. Donaldson 26, R. Gardiner 24, J. Horne 19, L. Heatley 17.
