EFFECT OF PREMIER’S PROMISE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. «As a result of the promise of the' Prime Minister to absorb all unemployed within five weeks there was a rush of registrations at the Government labour bureau to-day. The-number of registrations to-day was 438. Previously the daily average has been about 80. Of. the men registering to-day 119 had never previously registered. The total on the department’s books is now 818. Dunedin reports that 148 applications for employment were received by the Labour Department’s Dunedin bureau yesterday Snd 379 names now appear on the register. All of these have been enrolled during the past fortnight, and of the number 150 are without dependents.
