Hawke, United Member for Kaiapoi, speaking as a poultry, farmer and a grower of wheat, said he att.mdml a conference of poultry-keepers at Dunedin and the general opinion expressed there was- that New Zealand should he self dependent so far as the growing of wheat was concerned. At no time was any resolution carried which aimed at putting tho New Zealand wheat grower out of action,, although poultry farmers were naturally anxious .to get their food supplies at as cheap rate; as possible. He disputed the assertion that the .South Island poultry farmers had an advanr tage over the North Island farmers. . The committee at this stage adjourned until next Tuesday. . • •
