FINAL INGLESIDE OF SEASON
SUCCESSFUL GATHERING HELD.
It needed not the liberal sprinkling of kilted men among the dancers, or the vigorous, eightsome and foursome reels to make the visitor realise last night that the dance in the Agricultural Hall was a Scottish gathering. The jolly, friendly spirit that prevailed throughout the evening was unmistakably Caledonian in character. So it was that the New Plymouth Caledonian Society concluded the series of very successful inglesides held this winter. Fully 500 persons were present. Besides the futuristic fox-trots with variations, the modern one-steps and the semi-modern waltz, there were the semiancient lancerg and the ancient quadrilles. After being welcomed by Chieftain A. M. Mac Diarmid, who was played in in the customary manner, the dancers simply could not resist enjoying themselves under the musical influence of McNeill’s orchestra. Chieftain MacDiarmid and Mr. J. B. Erskine were the masters of ceremony. The haggis was treated with every respect, played in with all due cere-' niony, and spoken to very kindly by Chieftain Mac Diarmid, after which, it was eaten with considerable relish by the epicures. Supper was served under the supervision of a large committee of ladies.
During the evening Miss May Weir danced a Highland fling and seauntruibhas, and an amusing sketch entitled “The Crystal Set,” was presented by Chief J. E. Campbell (Hawera) and Mesdames Velvin and Twaddle.
Piping selections for the dances, etc.; were played by Pipe-Major A. S. Kirkland, M. MacDonald, R. Reid, R. Black and P. C. Henry.
