RED CROSS SOCIETY MEETS
NURSING CLASS COURSES. Th© New Plymouth Red Cross Society met last week. Present: Dr. Stenhouse (chairman), Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Newman, Sister Corkill, Mr. C. H. Morgan, the Rev. J. D. Wilson and the secretary (Miss Gibson).
Sympathetic reference was macle to the serious illness of Mr. A. B. Gibson, and members spoke of the great -work Mr. Gibson had done for the society. Lt was unanimously resolved that it be a recommendation to the New Zealand Council of the British Red Cross Society that Mr. Gibson be elected a life members of the society. Sister Corkill presented her report for August as follows:— Home Nursing.—The second course of home nursing classes has now begun. There is a very good membership,, and it is not too late for others desirous of taking this course to join the class now. The .Oakura home nursing class is pro- ' grossing well. First Aid.—The Girls’ High School class, for which Dr. Stenhouse is lecturer, has now concluded and examinations have been held by Dr. P. 0. Davie. Results are not yet to hand. The results of the senior first aid class are not yet known. It is hoped to publish these shortly, together with those of the first home nursing class. Health Department Work.—l have assisted Dr. Mccredy in the examination of six country schools, and have prepared a town school for inspection. Three other’ schools have been visited for th© purpose of re-examining children who required treatment, and a number of homes have been visited for .this purpose also.
Junior Red Cross.—Oakura School was visited and a talk on junior work given. A very enthusiastic circle has been formed there. Moturoa Circle has completed a very fine portfolio, to be sent to a school in Milwaukee, United States, in answer to one sent , from there. Other town circles -are busy on portfolios and Various activities connected with their programme of work.
Public Lectures.—A short course of lectures by members of the medical profession begins next week, when Dr. G. Home will open tho series with a talk on “Tho Cancer Problem.” These lectures are always exceedingly interesting and are open to tho public. Relief Work.—Fifteen visits have been paid by mo to homes, and necessities provided in a number of cases. Four requests were received for employment, and three for assistance in procuring domestic help. Gifts are acknowledged from tho following: Clothing: Mesdames M. Campbell, W. Broome, A.
