PREFERENTIAL RAIL RATE

AIDING FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

By Telegraph—Press Association.

Palmerston N., Sept. 2.

• At the meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board a special committee was set up to await the arrival of a letter from the General Manager of Railways in reply to the board’s request for preferential railway freights, as applying to the port of Wanganui, and to consider the request prior to deciding whether a deputation should go to Wellington to deal with the matter. Speakers stressed the fact that the granting of a preferential rate would greatly lighten the rates in the board’s area.
