DEATH AFTER RECORD WON
SOLO ENDURANCE FLIGHT PILOT FALLS ASLEEP IN AIR HONEYMOON NEVER BEGUN By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright, Australian Press Association. Received Sept. 1, 5.5 p.m. New York, Aug. 31,
Mr. Thomas G. Reid, Downey (California), won a new world’s solo endurance flight record at Cleveland last night, clipping Lieutenant Fagy’s mark of 36 hours 25 minutes 34 seconds.
Then, soon after he had passed the mark, the sound of his plane was not heard above the airport, and this morning searchers found the wrecked plane, scattered widely, and the terribly battered body in the Lorain Woods, west of the city. Apparently Reid fell asleep and crashed into a tree.
Reid was married in California the day before he left for the races here, and planned to break the record and use the prize money to take his bride on a delayed but extended honeymoon.
