CHILD DIES FROM BURNS
PAPER COSTUME TAKES FIRE TRAGEDY - ON OHANGAI FARM PARENTS SUFFER FROM BURNS. Death resulted when the fancy costume worn by Maurice George Trilford, aged five years, caught fire through c.oming in contact with a naked light at Ohangai on Friday night. The boy was immediately rushed to the Hawera hospital suffering from severe burns and. shock, but he died shortly before six o’clock on Saturday morning. The only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Trilford, well-known farming residents of Ohangai, and the youngest of a family of five young children, the boy had been dressed in a costume made of paper and light woollen material, preparatory to attending the children’s annual fancy dress ball at Ohangai on Friday night. In an endeavour to smother the flames both Mr. and Mrs. Triiford suffered severe burns to both hands. An inquest will be held in Hawera or Friday afternoon.
