A tragedy attended a fishing expedition at Botany Bay. Three fishermen were hurled into the w’ater when their boat struck a sandbank. George Baker, who was unable to swim, was drowned. Two of his companions reached the shore exhausted after a two-miles swim through rough water. One had supported Baker for an hour, but the latter struggled free and disappeared.
