LIBRARY COMMITTEE MEETS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At the sixth annual meeting of the Mahoenui public library Mr. J. Tubman presided over a fair attendance. The balance-sheet and report were unanimously adopted. The members of the new committee are Mrs. Old (librarian), Mrs. A. Rattenbury, Messrs. J. Armstrong, C. Croall (secretary and treasurer), and. J. Tubman (chairman). It was left to the committee to fix the date of the annual dance. The secretary was instructed to write to the McCarthy Trust seeking a subsidy and to the Education Department for a building subsidy. HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL DANCE. A very successful dance wag held in the new hall on Wednesday evening last. There were about 200 present from Waitara, Mokau, Awakino, Paemako, Piopio and Te Kuiti. Miles’ orchestra supplied the music. Mr. N. D. Jones spoke of the efforts made by the residents to bring the new hall into existence, and Mr. C. Croall welcomed those present and declared the hall open: The floor was well patronised until about 2 o’clock in the morning. The supper was up to the usual high standard. It can safely be said this was the largest gathering ever held in Mahoenui.
