MAWSON POLAR EXPEDITION

FULL WIRELESS EQUIPMENT. Complete arrangements are to be made for keeping Sir Douglas Mawson’s Antarctic expedition in touch with civilisation by wireless. The Discovery carries a remarkably high-powered wireless equipment of British manufacture, which will enable the expedition to keep in touch with all parts of the world most of the time it is in the Antarctic. The Discovery is registered in England, and the wireless call sign and wave-lengths will be allotted by the British authorities. Probably a number of wave-lengths will be used, several of them under 40 metres. The ship is fitted with wireless direc-tion-finding apparatus, and the two Moth seaplanes, which will be taken to the Antarctic for survey flights, are also equipped with wireless. The Commonwealth Navy Office, the Postal Department and Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia), Ltd., will cooperate with the expedition in its arrangements for wireless communication with Australia and other parts of the world, . . ...
