London, Aug. 9. “The Southern Cross lias proved badly the worse for wear,* states Squadion' Leader Kingsford Smith. “Jt requires one new wing, the old one being comEletely warped, and the engines need a borough overhauling, which the Fokker Company is giving them. “It is well that we landed when we did. A few more days in the air might have turned out very risky.. Consequently, we are obliged to remain in Europe longer than we expected.” ,
