WAIKATO RUGBY TOURISTS

DEFEAT BY POVERTY BAY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. Before a crowd of nearly 3000 and on a wet, muddy ground, Poverty Bay defeated the touring Waikato Rugby fifteen by 16 points to 3. The game was more even than the score indicates, Waikato being unlucky not to score on two occasions, while they missed an easy kick in front of the posts. The Waikato backs handled the ball and combined well but they lacked penetration. The . forwards were evenly matched, with Fleming, Kaye and Bourke the most prominent. Thomas played a great game at full-back, while Story and Vosper were the most conspicuous of the others.
