LAND FOR SETTLEMENT
PURCHASES BY GOVERNMENT.
PROPERTIES IN ISLAND.
Wellington, May 26. The Minister of Lands, Hou. G. W. Forbes, has announced that the following purchases of land have been completed: — . / Roseberry Estate, Oamaru, owned by Gilchrist Bros., comprising 2100 acres of high-class land suitable for dairying or mixed farming. It is anticipated the area will provide seven or eight good farms of areas ranging from 230 to 350 acres. '
Another portion of the same estate, owned by the Misses Gilchrist, comprising 1000 acres. This should provide six good farms. Brooksdale Homestead block, near Tapanui, Otago, owned by Mr. George Stuart, comprising 1940 acres, suitable for mixed farming or dairying. The property should divide into seven or eight good farms. Portion of the Scotson Estate, near St. Andrews, which is south of Timaru, owned by Mr, W. E. Mills. It consists of 4SB acres, the purchase of which has been- arranged under the group settlement legislation of 1925. There are two farms of 228 and 260 acres respectively. The land is of excellent quality. Applicants have already been approved as suitable settlers.
