Y.W.C.A. ACTIVITIES

The Y.W.C.A. Board of Directors held their monthly meeting on Wednesday. Present: .Mesdames Blundell (in. the chair), List, White, Wyatt, Ayckbourn, Clarke, Davie, Instill, Nisbet Smith, Misses Drew, Harrison, Gillies and Cole. Apologies were received from Mesdames Alexander and Weston, and Miss Haydon. Miss Gillies reported that she had returned from her week’s holiday on October 8. There were 18 permanents in the house and there have been seven visitors during the month. Mrs. Harrison reported the annual meeting of the membership committee, and that the new members would be joining the committee at the next meeting. The Y.W.C.A. annual meeting was to be h.eld on October 18. Mrs. Davie reported that the Girl Citizens had had a good month’s work. All had enjoyed the preparations with Mr. Atua for the Maori party, and were continuing the practices of the poi dances in order to use them in the citizen concert being given in November. The Girl Citizens in training met with Miss Garnden on Saturday afternoons, and had new members joining every week. Mira Maida Clark, of the Girls’ High School, was now in charge of the High School group. They met at tho school every Wednesday afternoon, and had a party arranged for Saturday, October 13. Instead of a Labour week-end camp, the girls were arranging an allday outing on .Monday to visit Koru pa. The senior club had planned a good programme for the ensuing six weeks. Mr. Hay had a musical programme for the open night. The mothers’ club reported an excellent meeting on September 26, when Miss Douglas spoke on vocational guidance, Miss Cole is io give some further experiences of Honolulu at the meeting on October 25. Several more have joined the club. The board members retiring and eligible for re-election after a three years’ term of office, are Mesdames White, List, Instill and Wyatt. There is also one vacancy to be filled on the board at the annual meeting. The business of the meeting will be concluded with a social programme and supper.
