SCHOOL FANCY DRESS BALL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The light rain that cojnmenced early on Thursday evening in no way affected the attendance at the school annual fancy dress ball, which was a great success, the Town Hall being crowded with children and adults. The organisation was a credit to the headmaster (Mr. Kirk) and all the teachers. The supper arrangements were carried out by a committee of ladies under Mrs. M. Sutherland. The hall, which was artistically decorated with greenery, looked very bright with the gay colours of the children’s dresses. Great interest was taken in the grand marches, which were a credit to the children. The junior one commenced at 7.30 p.m. and was led by Russel Kirkby and Sybil Grant. The senior march commenced at 8, led by June Farquhar and Jean Alleman, both of whom were in fairy dresses. During the evening several folk dances were given by the children, who held the floor till 10 p.m,, when adults took charge. CYCLE CLUB MEETING. The annual meeting of the Inglewood Cycle Club was held on Thursday evenpng. There was a fair attendance. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The club’s finances are in a healthy state, disclosing a credit of £lO 2s 9d. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. S. Lovell; vicepresidents, Mr. E. Maetzig and L. Bocock; secretary and treasurer, Mr. S. Evans; executive committee, Messrs. H. Julian, R. Tapp, W. Lawson and the president and secretary. It was decided to hold a series of five road races for the club’s challenge cup, commencing on October 18, and continuing on each succeeding Thursday until the series is completed. The races are to be as follows: First, to Norfolk Road and back; second, Jo Egmont Village and back; third, to Tariki and back; fourth, around Ketmiro; fifth and final, to Waitara Road and back. The club members all seem to be very enthusiastic, which augurs well for the coming season.
