AUSTRALIAN BY-ELECTION
LABOUR RETAINS SEAT. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Sydney, Sept. 12. The by-election to fill the vacancy paused by the death of Mr. Murray, a Labour member of the Assembly, resulted in a victory for Mr. J. E. Smith (Labour), who defeated Mr. Skelton (Protestant Labour) by 284 votes.
