CYCLE TOUR DE FRANCE
SIZE OF FIELD DECREASING. By Telegraph—Press Assn —Copyright. Paris, June 19. An Australian Press Association message from Cherbourg states that the Tour de France field has been reduced to 138. It is significant that, with their advantage in pacing, the Frenchmen Le Ducq, Frantz, Rebry, Vervaecke, Dewaele and Delanny won the stage prizes with a time of 4hr 12min 29see. Opperman took 4hr 24min 48see, and Watson and Osborne 4hr 29nrin 44sec. The distance was 90 miles. The Australians are helping each other as much as possible to face the mishaps and disadvantages, and in this connection sporting sympathy is shown everywhere. Opperman with a splendid sprint at the finish recorded the third fastest time over the final lap. The present aggregates arc: Frantz, Meertens, Rebry, Dewaele and Vervacke lOhr 41min 32see. Opperman is in the 22nd position with llhr 14min 57see. The Australians are persistently losing time through unfamiliarity with the signs and the strange tyres.
