Governor Ritchie has issued a statement claiming that an overwhelming majority of the party desire Governor Smith’s nomination, adding: ‘‘l therefore release the Maryland delegation from the instructions which the State convention was generous enough to give on my behalf, and when the delegation meets I suggest they cast the Maryland vote at the Democratic Convention for Governor Smith.”
