SCARLET FEVER SPREADS
(EIGHT CASES SO FAR THIS MONTH. URGENT NEED FOR PRECAUTION. Scarlet fever has been prevalent in New Plymouth and the surrounding districts for some months. Six patients were admitted to the Public Hospital in April and eight in May, four of them being from the borough, which up to that time had been fairly free of the disease. Up till Thursday the position was not considered .serious in the town, but since then four cases were reported in one day, each from a different part of the borough, and already th’> month eight notifications have been made. The brothers and sisters of the suf- j ferers have been quarantined as con- | tacts, as there would be a grave danger of the disease spreading rapidly were they allowed to- mix with other children. Parents would be well advised to take the strictest precautions, said Inspector R. Day yesterday. The authorities asked for their co-operation so | that the enforcement of stringent mea- | surcs would not be necessary. Children | should . be watched carefully and upon i the slightest sign of sickness or a cold j medical advice should be sought.
