annual conference. DOMINION FEDERATION MOOTED. The annual conference of the Dominion. Factory Managers’ Association was held at Palmerston North on Monday evening, when Mr. G. Wood (Ngaere), Dominion president, presided over an attendance of about 100 members. The delegates from Victoria and New South Wales were present. .Mr. Woods briefly welcomed the members, expressing the opinion that the yearly conferences contributed a great deal towards the smooth working of the association. He extended a special welcome to three visiting Australian managers, Messrs J. Proud (Victoria), A. E. .Sweaney (New South Wales) and F. G. Martin (Victoria). The delegates, in reply, conveyed fraternal greetings from Australian managers. Prior to the commencement of the business, Mr. H. E. Pacey, representing the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, extended a welcome to the delegates and outlined the arrangements made by tho association for the entertainment of visitors during their stay in Palmerston North. The election of officers resulted; — Dominion president, Mr. Denis Ferguson (Oroua Downs); provincial presidents, Messrs P. C. H. Peterson (Auckland), W. Young (Taranaki), E. Lemberg (Manawatu), W. Delahunty (Hawke's Bay), R. W. Foss (Bush district), J. W. Middleton (South Island), 11. Crosbie (Wairarapa); secretary, Mr. Alec Neilson (Pihama); auditor, Mr. A. E. Bendall (Palmerston North). MAN AGERS’ FED!'. RATION. The question of the formation of a Dominion Factory Managers’ Federation embracing the whole of the Dominion was discussed at some length, the views of the meeting finally being embodied in a resolution. Mr. J. Murray (Palmerston North) and Mr, A. Middleton (Canterbury) then moved ami seconded the following motion, which was carried unanimously:- “That the New Zealand Factory Managers’ Association take the necessary steps to Jay the foundation for a federation of dairy factory managers, embracing the whole of the Dominion, and that a special committee be set up to confer with a similar committee to be appointed by the Otago and Southland Dairy Factory Managers’ Union, the committees to meet in Wellington during the last week in July, 1928; a report to be submitted to the next annual meeting of the association with recommendations for a suitable constitution and draft of rules governing the suggested federated (body. Further, that such committee be instructed to
enter into no arrangement which may involve the federated body in the Arbitration Court or that would harraes the provincial executive as at present constituted.” The president and Secretary, with Messrs J. W. Middleton and J. Ferguson, were appointed a delegation to confer with the Otago and Southland representatives. Tho following remits were adopted after a brief discussion: Auckland.—" That managers who have risen to a higher position in the dairying industry should be allowed to continue as subscribing members of the association.’’ Manawatu.—“That the Dairy Division bo asked to consider the advisability of making the grading of milk for cheese-making compulsory with differential payments.” Bush Districts. —“That the activities of the special testing officer be extended, whereby samples of milk may be analysed for added water.” The director of the Dairy Division, Mr. W. M. Singleton, was present during the meeting and discussed several matters with the members. The discussion was taken in committee. Prior to dispersing, eulogistic references were made to the work of tho secretary, Mr. A. F. Neilsen (Pihama) in the interests of the association. It was also decided to congratulate Mr. C. J. Parlane on his appointment as manager of tho New Zealand Dairy Association.
