BOWLING CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS (From the News’ Correspondent.) The twenty-second annual meeting of tho Inglewood Bowling Club was held last night. The following is the report presented by the president, Mr. F. Longbottom:— During the year an electric mower was installed at a cost of £24 12s 9d, and improvements had been mad? to the footpaths. The club’s indebtedness to the bank had been reduced by £l3 and the club’s assets over liabilities were now £421. Seven members resigned during the year and 14 new members were elected. The total membership was now 60, including four life members, Messrs A. Marshall, J. Goller, W. Marshall and A. Alorton, who were elected life members in recognition of past services as guarantors of the club. The buildings and fences were all in a good state of repair and no expenses in this connection were anticipated during the coming season.

The club had been very successful in the banner competitions, winning the ten matches played, but being beaten in the play-off for- the championship of Taranaki by Hawera in tho second round. Saturday play had been thoroughly established, matches being played on almost every Saturday during the season. Players taking part in these games had had a very satisfactory and enjoyable season and the club’s thanks were due to Messrs Andrews and Hill for their work in this connection.

The usual pairs tournament was played on Labour Day by the club members, but two games were unfinished owing to the weather. The Poppell Cup was again competed for and was won by 11. Drake, (). Spurdie. J. Wilson and 0. Whyte (skip). The club competition winners were:— Champion singles, I<’. Longbottom; B grade singles, W. Somerton; champion pairs. C. Whyte and J. Wilson; B grade pairs, J. Hook and R. Hill; handicap pairs, W. J. Smith and E. Spurdie; handicap singles, W. Alartin. Four sinks took part at New Plymouth New Year tournament find one rink in. the Hawera Easter tournament,, but none v.-ent fyrthcr than scftional play.
