ARARATA FIRE VICTIMS. SUPPORT FOR THE FAMILY. A decision to open a subscription account to help the surviving members of the family whose homo was destroyed by fire at Ararata on May 24, wao made at the monthly meeting of .the Hawera County Council. Th© chairman (Cr. J. B. Murdoch) remarked there was no reason for any suggestion that Mrs. Wollcr and her two children had been neglected, as they had been cared for and had received the atention of th© Women’s National Reserve since the loss of their home. On it being reported that objection had been raised to the action of a canvasser who was© soliciting help for Mrs. Wollcr and family, tho chairman said that, while the canvasser may have been prompted by admirable motives, response to such an appeal should not be given if the canvasser had not publicly announced his intention through th© Press or received the sanction of the local authority. The particular appeal referred to had not officially received tho sanction of the council. Tho chairman further announced that, with the Mayor (Mr. E, A. Pacey) and Cr. T. A. Winks, he was to administer an appeal for funds for the support for Mrs. Woller and family, and it was decided unanimously to open a subscription list at tho county office.
