A message from Mather (Pennsylvania) states that a fire broke out in the wrecked mine and impeded rescue work for some hours. Later it was controlled with no further, injuries. The fiftieth body has now been removed. Two miners, whose story is given credence, said they saw a cutting machine sever an electric cable and the spark sr' up ignited the gas in the coaldust. A series of explosions followed. United Service. New York, May 21. The Mather death-roll to-day totalled 46, and 152 are unaccounted for. There is’little hope that they are alive.
