Although an air of romance surrounds the mission of the fishing boat Stella, which in the near future will be towed round to the new fishing base at Preservation Inlet, states the Dunedin Evening Star, it is evident from the preparations which are being made on the ship itself that the enterprise is one that savours strongly of the “strictly business” slogan. The object of the venture is, of course, to catch fish. But in addition to this the fish will be prepared on this “factory at sea” for export, and will be stored in a modern refrigerator until steamers come round from Bluff at intervals to relieve the Stella of her store. Since the factory ship will be a fixture the bulk of the fishing will be carried out by means of a fleet of small boats. The machinery which is at present -being installed is all steam driven.
