A Wellington message reports tho death, on Thursday night, of Li Kwang Heng, aged 59, Consul for the Kepubliq of China in New Zealand.
Mr. L. S. Clare has been appointed manager of the Theatre Royal Company, Waitara, in succession to Mr. )>. J. George, who is taking up farming st Hawera.
Messrs. A. E. Alison (Commissioner for the Government Life insurance Department), J. 11. Jerrani (general manager for the State Fire Insurance Department) and P. Verschaffclt (Publio Service Commissioner), motored from Hamilton on Thursday to New Plyii’iouth. They leave to-day for Wellington.
Mr. F. Baird and his family, who are leaving the Mangorei district, were farewelled by settlers at a social held in the Mangorei school on Tuesday night. During the evening, as a token of the esteem in which he was held by settlers, Mr. Baird was presented with a wallet of notes by Mr. F. A. Corney on behalf of the gathering. Sergeant S. J. Martin, who has been attached to the New Plymouth Police Force for six years, will leave for D»nnevirke on Monday morning to take charge of the station there. Yesterday afternoon he was met by his colleagues, on whose behalf Inspector D. C. Fraser made a presentation of an inscribed leather suitcase. Mr. Fraser expressed the goodwill of the local police towards the sergeant, and wished him success in his new position. Similar remarks were made by Senior-Sergeant H. McCrorie, Detective A. B. Meiklejohn, Sergeant T. W. Jones and Constables G. A. Hadler and S. Small. Sergeant Martin will be succeeded by Sergeant T. I. MacGregor, of Christchurch, who many years ago was stationed at Mokau.
