Mariquita didn’t know where she was going; she was quite, quite lost. And in such an amazing country too! She didn’t think she would ever be able to find her way home, and, for some peculiar reason, she didn't mind a bit. But all the same she cried softly to herself as she walked on. As a matter of fact, she didn’t exactly walk! She clambered among vines on which there were thousands of bundles of little M grapes. No sooner had she spoken the words than she was a little black grape! She tried to wriggle off the bunch, but her stalk held her tight, and she became hotter and hotter- as the sun burnt her. “Oh. what will become of me!” wept Mariquita. “Currants,” said a voice. “Currants!” cried Mariquita. “I never heard of such a thing!” “Perhaps not, but that doesn’t matter,” said the voice. It didn’t, because Mariquita was a currant! “Oh,” moaned poor Mariquita, “What trill become of me?” "Cake,” said the voice. “No!” cried Mariquita. “I won't be eaten. Oh, this is dreadful!
