VICTORIA LEAGUE
FLORAL TEA HELD. There was a very large attends nee at the floral tea in the Victoria League room yesterday, when the guests of honour were Archdeacon and Mrs F. G. Evans, Mrs. M. I. Courtney and Mrs. Franklyn J. White. The hostesses were Airs. J. G. Brash and Mrs. E. Everiss.
The president (Mrs. C. 11. Burgess) referred eulogistically to Archdeacon and Mrs. Evans for their readiness on all occasions to help in the work of the league in all its branches. Mrs. Courtney had been the first secretary of the' branch when it was inaugurated 15 years ago and she had don> yeoman service in enrolling members. Mrs, Burgess introduced Mrs. White to the gathering and explained that she was a member of the Auckland branch, but had come to live in New Plymouth, probably for a year. Mrs. White had recently returned from a trip Home and had a great respeet for the parent body in London.
Archdeacon Evans, in reply, said that he and Mrs. Evans were pleased to do whatever they could for the league, a body that was always doing so much for everybody.
Afternoon tea was served. A recitation was given by Miss Hopson and songs by Mrs. A. B. MacDonald.
Mrs. Burgess proposed a vote of thanks to the hostesses, who had provided the tea and the programme and bad run the cake stall.
Competitions were won by Mrs T. C. List and Mrs. J. Lobb.
