Sangster presiding over a large attendance. The annual report congratulated members on the success attended during the past season. The credit balance at the end of the season was £3O 2s, to-day it was £4O 7s, an increase of £lO ss. This was considered, very satisfactory for a junior club. Although the teams were not successful in winning any of the central division competitions the first junior team showed greatly-improved form towards the end of the season. This allowed the necessity of training early in the season and not waiting till the end. The club retained the Dean Cup. The thanks of the club ware due to

Mr. E. Walter, M.P., for the donation of a medal for the most useful player in the team. The medal was won By Mick Sangster. Thanks were due Mr. W. H. Masters for a medal for the fittest player in the team. This was woj? by J. Lash. In conclusion the report thanked all who supported the club during the year “Without the whole-hearted support of tlie ladies of the district our evenings and dances could not have been the successes they were.” The report and balance sheet were adopted on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. W. H. Masters. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr. E. Walter, M.P.; president, Mr. W. H. Were; 13 vice-presidents were elected; secretary and treasurer, Mr. II Were; auditor, Mr. W. 11. Masters; club captain, Mr. R. Burgham. It was decided to reduce the management committee to four, exclusive of officers. The following were elected:— Messrs. A, Sangster, W. 11, Masters, J, Johnstone, J. Caskey. The secretary and chairman were elected delegates to the annual meeting of the Stratford club. It was decided to nominate two teams, Mr. L. Marfel being elected coach and selector for the first juniors and Mr. R. Burgham for the third grade team. Tli-e subscription was fixed the same as last year. The following new members were elected: W. Duerdon, R. Duerdon, G; Haig, T. Sangster, L. Lash, A. Sextus, P. Stephens and L. Pierce.

A donation of £lO was made to the Toko Domain Board, appreciative reference being made to the pood work recently done in improving the sportsground. A vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing officers. CELTIC FOOTBALL CLU3. The annual meeting of the Celtic Football Club was held last night, Mr. W. Tunbridge presiding over a large attendance. The annual report stated that during the 1927 season the team won the central division and the Taranaki first junior championships. These wins were all the more meritorious as one-third 01 the team was composed of the previous season’s third-grade players. The club was indebted to Messrs.. Tocker and Hampson for the manner in which they had coached and trained the team, and to Mr. F. Foley for his assistance in training and for coaching the third grade team. That team had not been in the running for the central division third grade championship, but it had put up several creditable performances. L'he club regretted the departure from Stratford of two valued members, Messrs. T. Kane, secretary, and C. Hartwell. During the year the club had held its annual ball and smoke concert, both proving outstanding social successei. The club particularly wished to place on record its appreciation of the efforts of the ladies who assisted at the ball. The Stratford club was congratulated on the fine performances of all its teams, especially the senior team in winning the Taranaki championship. Financially the club’s position was satisfactory, although it could be improved. The total assets were £3 3s Id. In conclusion the committee extended its thanks to the donors of medals, to tlie Referees’ Association and to all who had assisted the club in any way. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Dr. D. Steven; president, Mr. P. White; 15 vice-presidents were elected; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. L. I’’. Coley; assistant secretary, Mr. J. Stevens; honorary auditor, Mr. T, Kilpatrick; club captain, Mr. J. Hampson; delegates to the Stratford Club, Messrs. Bodley, Coley and White; first junior selector, Mr. J. Hampson; coach, Mr. F. Foley; third, grade coach and selector, Mr. F. Aheme; management committee, Messrs. W. Healy, H. Bodley, L. Culpeu, W. Casey, W. Clarke, W. Tunbridge, F. Foley and A. Kelly. Mr. H. Campbell asked for an assurance that there would be a third grade team this year as he had heard it rumoured otherwise. He hoped that if the club entered a team in the grade the team ’ would receive more attention, this year than last. He said that at one match there had been only ten men playing, and as the regular captain had been absent and no one had been appointed in his place there had been no organisation.

The speaker was assured that the club would enter a third grade team in the competition. The secertary was instructed to express the club's .sympathy to the patron, Dr. Steven, and to Mr. A. Rawles on account of their present illnesses. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Bodley for the donation of a silver cup. BOWLING MATCHES AT STRATFORD Two matches were played on the Stratford bowling green yesterday afternoon. Members of the home club entertained rinks from Eltham and Kaponga. Four rinks represented the Eltham Club and two the Kaponga Club. The matches with Kaponga were rather remarkable because both rinks tied on the last head and in each case an extra head had to be played to decide the winner. In the other match Stratford won with comparative ease. Details are:—

The cups, which are of unique design, have been allotted as points prizes in running and cycling events and the third as the Jubilee Cup. In all athletic events a first place counts three points, a second two and a third one. Maiden races, consolation races and forced handicap events do not count for a points prize. Where two or more competitors tie the points for the place are awarded to the one who is handicapped nearest to the scratch mark. Mr. T. Kirkwood, vice-president of the centre, will Ibe referee for the Cardiff anil Toly> meetings. SPECTACULAR CARNIVAL REVUE. Under the direction of Mesdames Kear and Newton, the revue produced last night in the Stratford town hall in aid of the combined queen carnival candidates was most entertaining, both musically and spectacularly. The producers showed to what perfection it was possible to educate performers in a short time.

The revue was produced at . short, notice, ’but the reception accorded the marches and dances was evidence that the popular taste had been satisfied. The special orchestra of nine instruments contributed in no small degree to the success. The grand finale was a triumph. The queen candidates, Miss Molly Malone (I’lunket), Miss Winnie Wilson (band and fire brigade), appeared in a gay scene of coloured lights flashing on the massed chorus. Miss Hilda Haldane, the mountain candidate, was unavoidably absent. The programme was: “A Lane In Spain,” ’Bonnie Sheahan and chorus; “Just Like a Butterfly,” Pattie Childs; quartette, “Tinker; Tailor, Soldier, Sailor,” Lucy Shields, Molly Femmell, Dulcie Kehely and Phyllis Noble; monologue, “Good Little Boy and Bad Little Boy,” Gordon Kear; Irish Jig, Clarice Griffen; Hawaiian scene, “Honolulu Moon,” Dulcie Kehely, Maisie Smart and chorus; clog dance, Jean Abraham; Sunbeams’ dance, company; ribbon march, company; “Drifting and Dreaming, Jean Hopkins, Connie Sheahan and company; Sailor’s Hornpipe, Clarice Griffen; trio dance, “Harlequinade,” Rita Duidding, Pattie Cltilds and Maisie Smart; a sketch, “Rehearsing Private Theatricals,” Joan Johnson and Gordon Kear; jazz ballet, company; “Old Chap,” monologue, Myra Wilson; “Waiting For the Rainbow,” Phyllis Noble and chorus; grand finale. . To-night the revue will be staged in Inglewood in aid of the funds of the Stratford and Inglewood Plnnket Societies.
