NORTH TARANAKI MATTERS. M A NAt. EM KN T COMMITI'E E M E ETS ARRANGEMENTS FOR SEASON. The management committee of the North Taranaki Cricket Division met last night. Present: Messrs. C. G. Bottrill (chairman), W. 11. Quickfall, A. Jackson, W. Moorhead, S. 0. Jones, G. VV. Haughton, G. 11. Saunders, J. Brown, A. D. N. Train, T. 11. Bates and D. F. C. Saxton (hon. sec.). A deputation representing the North Taranaki Primary School Sports Association waited on the committee with a request that on March 17 the use of Pukekura Park sportsground be given to the association in order that a North Taranaki athletic sports meeting for schools could be held. The chairman pointed out that the cricketers had to pay fairly substantially for the ground, and already had been compelled to give up several Saturdays. There were at present really only two grounds fit to play cricket on, and. the sportsground was one of them. Every Saturday that the cricket matches were put off the ground it meant a loss of £5 to the association. From the cricketers’ point of view the application should certainly be declined, especially in view of the fact that March 10 was already earmarked for carnival purposes. On the other hand, the cricketers did not want to see the school children penalised. APPLICATION GRANTED. The deputation withdrew, and on the motion of the chairman it was resolved, after discussion, to grant the sports association the use of the ground on March 17 conditional upon a guarantee being given that an endeavour be made to hold any similar meetings on the future on a day other than Saturday. This guarantee was given by the primary schools’ representative on the executive (Air. A. D. N. Train). The umpires’ association forwarded a complaint from one of their members that bad language had been used bycertain members of one of the junior teams playing on the Tukapo groundinstructed by the chairman, the captain of the team concerned waited on the committee aud admitted with regret that there had been some bad language amongst the members of his team. He would take steps, however, to make sure that it did not occur again. General regret was expressed by members of the committee that such conduct had occurred, and it was resolved to take strong action should similarconduct occur in the future. The secretary was instructed to write to the club concerned, drawing attention to the matter, and also to notify all clubs with junior teams that it was desirable that greater care should be exercised in maintaining the traditional good conduct of cricket teams in the field. NORTH V. SOUTH MATCH. It was resolved to make further representations to the southern division with reference to a North v. South match. It was decided to play a Town A v Country A match at New Plymouth on Wednesday, February 29, and to negotiate further for a match between Town B and combined junior grades. In order to give the selectors an opportunity of seeing some of the Thurs day competition players in action, it was resolved to suggest that an endeavour be made to play a match, Country A v. Thursday players, in which case arrangements will be made for one or more selectors to attend. It was resolved to nominate Mr. E. Lash as the Taranaki selector for tho northern division. Air. Bates brought up the matter of (infinancial members of North Taranaki clubs going to other districts and continuing to play cricket in competitions. He w-as in favour of having such players prohibited from playing without first securing a clearance from their previous c lub.—lt was resolved to bring the matter up at the next meeting of the Taranaki Association. Permission was granted the Country Association to play their annual matches, Country A v. South Taranaki A at Hawera, and Country B v. South Taranaki B at Tikorangi, on March 3.
