CONVALESCENT WARD FUND

ANONYMOUS DONATION OF £SV. COMMUNITY INTEREST PRAISED. p ■■ A donation of £5O towards the fund for the erection of convalescent wards at the New Plymouth hospital, has been made by a lady who desires to remain anonymous. The hope that her example would be followed by others was expressed by the Rev. R. B. Gosnell, chairman of the social welfare committee, at yesterday s meeting of tho board. The residents of Inglewood had also set the whole district a high standard and through Mr. A. Corkill, the local representative on the board, ho would like to offer congratulations tor what had been done. Inglewood had laised £5O in cash.

Mr. Corkill: We have a little more than that.

Mr. Gosnell said £5O had been reported in the Press and this meant that the board had £lOO in hand. He hoped others in the hospital district would follow the example of the lady who desired to remain strictly anonymous. The hearty thanks of tho board was duo to this lady, to Inglewood and to the Male Choir for concerts that were being arranged in different parts of the district.

Mr. R. J. Deare hoped the ladies of New Plymouth and district would form a sunshine league. There was one in Hamilton, where the hospital received great benefits from tho organisation. The ladies were able to do a great deal for the comfort of the patients and the betterment ol the institution. The chairman (Mr. M. Fraser) said it was the duty of board members to create interest in the district. It was gratifying that tho community was being aroused to take a keen and active interest in the hospital. The board should acknowledge the Inglewood effort by letter. He hoped that the younger members of the board would see that the interest was kept alive. He, himself, was an older man than his colleagues on tho board, and perhaps if lie could not do anything himself he might give a pound or two towards the fund. Mr. Gosnell: Thank you, sir.
