COURT DISMISSES CHARGE. Dy Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Nov. 15. James Alexander Jackson, secretary of a lodge, was charged to-day with having commenced a Christmas hamper competition, whereby prizes would be disposed of by a mode of chance. He pleaded not guilty, counsel stating that defendant had not commenced the scheme. The magistrate dismissed the charge, saying it was a straight-out criminal charge, and he would require to be satisfied of the guilt of defendant.
