ACCUSED BROUGHT FROM SYDNEY, VALUABLE JEWELS MISSING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 4. John Guthrie Smith, 21, who was brought back from Sydney on a charge of breaking and entering Stubbs and Millars’, Dannevirke, in February, appeared before Mr.' Page, S.M., to-day, and was remanded, to appear at Napier on Thursday. The chief detective said accused was apprehended in Sydney while attempting to dispose of some of the jewellery. Of £2658 worth taken, about £l6OO worth had not been recovered. There was every reason to believe Smith knew where it was. Bail was refused.
